My trip to Cuba changed me. Some of the things that I’ve been asking God to show me in my life were revealed when I went to Cuba. But I did have opposition. Opposition did not show itself to me like I thought it would. It showed itself to me in my own life. It showed itself to me, in me. There are things that came up that tried my patience; that made me want to stand up in opposition. But what God showed me time and time again, is that the only thing that was getting in the way, was me. When I felt that He asked me to go on the team, I was going down there to serve Cuba. But I wasn’t only going to serve Cuba, I was going to serve the team. To quote the Bible, it wasn’t going to be me that was living, but Christ that was living in me.
So I decided to take on that mentality before I left and while I was down there. I do not believe that God would have moved in my life the way that he did if I hadn’t changed my attitude. The things that he showed me and the way that he moved through our team and upon the people in Cuba is in direct relation to what I did myself and to what each of the team members did in their own lives. God showed me again how much he can move in my life and in the people’s lives around us if we are only willing to let ‘self’ go further and further away from us. I felt such great joy in selflessness more than I’ve ever felt in my life before. It truly is better to give than to receive.
